About The Producer
Kloovenburg lies beneath the rugged Kasteelberg mountain, just outside the historic town of Riebeek Kasteel in South Africa’s Swartland. The estate was purchased in 1956 by the Du Toit and De Kock families, with Piet and Barbara du Toit making the farm their home the following year.
Their son Pieter joined his father at Kloovenburg in 1987 and now runs the estate alongside his wife, Annalene, and their four sons. The family made their first wine in 1997, producing just 200 bottles of Pinotage with little more than their hands and feet for equipment. A dedicated cellar followed in 2000.
Today, Kloovenburg remains a handsome, bustling family farm of vineyards, olive groves and table grapes. Its vines sweep across the lower slopes of Kasteelberg, where changing elevations, aspects and soils create a patchwork of growing conditions. Rooted in the warmth and generosity of the Swartland, the estate combines generations of farming experience with a thoughtful, modern approach to the land.
