Why You'll Love It
A wine so pure it almost feels like it should be good for you. A brilliant option for anybody looking to venture away from Chablis, for something more characterful and interesting at the price point.
Bright and expressive with ripe pear, yellow apple and a gentle citrus lift, this is Chenin Blanc with plenty of character. There's a lovely mineral edge running through the wine, giving freshness and focus. The palate is creamy and soft, but lacking no energy.
A fantastic all-rounder that works just as well with roast chicken, fish dishes and creamy pasta as it does with a sunny afternoon and no particular plan.

About The Producer
Blackwater is the personal project of François Haasbroek, one of South Africa's most respected independent winemakers. Rather than relying on a single estate, François works with exceptional vineyard sites across the Western Cape, often seeking out old vines and lesser-known locations that others overlook. His philosophy is simple: great fruit, minimal intervention and wines that tell the story of where they come from. Over the years, Blackwater has become known for producing characterful, honest wines that consistently punch above their weight, and Underdog is perhaps the perfect expression of that ethos.
Winemaking Information
Underdog is made from Chenin Blanc sourced from carefully selected vineyards across the Western Cape. The fruit is hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed before fermenting with indigenous yeasts. A portion of the wine is matured in older French oak barrels while the remainder stays in tank, creating a balance of freshness, texture and complexity. François Haasbroek's hands-off approach allows the fruit and vineyard character to shine, resulting in a Chenin Blanc that overdelivers at every level.
