About The Producer
Rutherford Hill was founded in 1972 and has become one of the defining wineries of Napa Valley's Rutherford AVA, a region famous for producing some of California's finest Cabernet Sauvignon. Since joining the Terlato family in 1996, the estate has focused on crafting elegant, age-worthy wines that express Rutherford's distinctive character, often described as the famous "Rutherford Dust". The AJT Collection is named after Anthony J. Terlato and represents some of the winery's finest small-production wines.
Winemaking Information
The fruit is sourced from premium vineyards across Rutherford, where warm days and cool evenings allow Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen slowly while retaining freshness. Following fermentation, the wine is matured in French oak, adding subtle notes of cedar, vanilla and baking spice without overshadowing the concentrated dark fruit. The tiny 2021 harvest, shaped by drought conditions, produced exceptionally small berries with remarkable concentration and structure, making this one of Napa Valley's standout recent vintages.
