This wine is bananas. Not just the label... Fresh, fun and immensely fruity with elderflower, grapefruit and grapey aromas (yes, really...). With a light floral touch and a tickle of sweetness, this wine is light and far too gluggable on a sunny afternoon. It also works brilliantly with spicy foods.
Morio Muskat is an old, rare variety. It has no genetic cross-over with Muscat, despite sharing a similar name and some flavour characteristics. It's called 'Monkey' Morio because a stuffed toy monkey that was found near the vines became a mascot for the vineyard.
The family-owned Hanewald-Schwerdt was founded in Leistadt, Pfalz, in 1955. Today the property is managed by cousins, Thomas Hanewald and Stephan Schwerdt. Thomas and Stephan are members of ‘Generation Riesling’ a body made up of the best young winemaking talent in Germany. Their focus is on dry wines, primarily made from Riesling and Pinot Noir that express their vintage and vineyard - masters of fruit purity and drinkability.
