Dr. Loosen Pinot Noir Rosé Sekt 2015

Decadent and rare. This wine is a real treat, just in time for Christmas. This wine was first tasted as an illicit sample, smuggled over by our importer a few months ago. We (and a few lucky customers) tasted and agreed that if it were to sell for around £60 a bottle, it would be a great value vintage Champagne alternative. So imagine how chuffed we are at being able to offer it for much less! This wine's production is a bit of a fluke, so very little was made. With only 60 bottles available to the UK, we were keen to put our name to half of those bottles immediately.

Here we have an indulgent rosé fizz with the grown up subtle red fruit charm of Pinot Noir. The fruit is from the Mosel Valley's Ürziger Würzgarten (translated as Spice Garden) vineyard, which lends exotic, spicy aromas and great depth, enhanced by the time this wine has spent maturing on its lees. Brilliantly fresh and exciting on the plate, this is a wine of great character and complexity. I wish we could buy more of it...

Almost all of Dr. Loosen’s production is Riesling from traditional Mosel slopes as their ancestors have been doing it for over 200 years. When they obtained some Pinot Noir vineyards in Riesling country, they were not really sure what to do with it as there is no real tradition for Pinot Noir on the Mosel. It seemed only logical to combine a love for Pinot Noir with a passion for great sparkling wine. So, why not do a vintage Rosé Sekt?
