Why You'll Love It
Ripe blackberry and blueberry are wrapped in cedar, tobacco and warming spice, while firm, polished tannins give the wine a broad, velvety shape. It is powerful enough for slow-cooked lamb or a properly charred steak, yet there is enough freshness underneath to keep you reaching for another glass. Decant it for an hour if drinking now, or tuck it away and let those darker, savoury flavours unfold.
About The Producer
The Moro family has cultivated vines in Pesquera de Duero for four generations, combining an intimate knowledge of Ribera del Duero with a willingness to question convention. Malleolus, first released in 1998, marked an important turning point: rather than following the traditional Crianza and Reserva hierarchy, Emilio Moro began judging each wine by its vineyards and vintage. Its name comes from the Latin for majuelo, the local word for a small vineyard, neatly capturing the family’s belief that great Ribera begins with the land.
Winemaking Information
Made from 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grown in elevated, stony vineyards around Pesquera de Duero. The shallow, calcium-rich soils naturally restrict yields, producing concentrated fruit while preserving freshness. The grapes spend approximately 18 days macerating with their skins before malolactic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Malleolus is then matured in French oak, predominantly larger 500-litre barrels, which build structure and complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
