Dr Loosen Extra Dry Sparkling Riesling NV

We bloody love sparkling wine, and so do the German's. In fact, they drink more sparkling per capita than anywhere else in the world and the vast majority of it is their own domestic production, referred to as Sekt. Of course, Sekt isn't all made equally and naturally we've found one of the very best. This is Deutscher Sekt which means the grapes are German and the wine has been made in Germany - in this case solely produced in the famous South West valley of the Mosel and by one of our favourite producers - the Loosen family. For over 200 hundred years, the Loosen family have been making wines in the Mosel and since 1988 the maverick, charismatic and lovable Erni has taken on the reigns.

This wine is made traditionally (i.e. the second fermentation happens in bottle). On the nose the varietal character is obvious - very Riesling-y. Loaded with lime, peach, green apple and white blossom, but given that this is a more grown-up wine than, say, a Prosecco, the wine does feel rich, buttery and creamy. Just the tipple for an adventurous fizz fanatic, looking to explore an alternative to fruity Prosecco and enjoy better value than Champagne.
