Why You'll Love It
Silky and seductive, this is Sangiovese at its most elegant, balancing fine tannins with vibrant acidity and a long, savoury finish. A kalidescope of ripe cherry, wild strawberry and dried cranberry unfold alongside violets, sweet tobacco, cedar and a gentle hint of Mediterranean herbs.
A wonderful match for slow-cooked lamb, wild boar ragù or aged Pecorino.

About The Producer
Founded in 1974, Avignonesi has become one of the benchmark estates of Montepulciano. Since Virginie Saverys took ownership in 2009, the winery has embraced organic and biodynamic farming, becoming the largest biodynamically certified estate in Italy. Every vineyard is farmed with biodiversity at its heart, and the cellar philosophy is one of patience and restraint. While Avignonesi is renowned for its iconic Vin Santo and outstanding Merlot, its Vino Nobile remains the soul of the estate - an elegant, age-worthy expression of one of Tuscany's oldest and most historic appellations.
Winemaking Information
Poggetto di Sopra is sourced from a single organically and biodynamically farmed vineyard on the Avignonesi estate, where clay and sandstone soils provide excellent drainage and naturally low yields. The grapes are harvested by hand before fermenting with indigenous yeasts, allowing the vineyard to express itself with minimal intervention. The wine is matured for around 18 months in large Slavonian oak casks, preserving the purity of the fruit and the character of Sangiovese, before further bottle ageing prior to release.
