You read that correctly... This white Sangiovese is a really charming wine with plenty going on. Fresh notes of sour cherry, orange blossom and wild heather give it a lovely floral lift, while a hint of quince and lime adds some citrus fruit intensity. On the palate it’s juicy and nicely textured, with a gentle mineral edge and bags of freshness. There's a subtle savoury note on the finish that keeps things interesting. Easy to enjoy but with a bit of complexity too. Perfect with lemony, herby chicken or just as a crisp, characterful aperitivo.
Barbanera is a family-run estate at the foot of Monte Cetona in southern Tuscany, close to the Umbria border. Founded in 1938 by Altero and Maria Franceschini during Italy’s most turbulent years, the winery has grown from humble beginnings into a dynamic, multi-regional producer, now proudly in its fourth generation.
While firmly rooted in Tuscany, Barbanera has long looked beyond it, forging key export links from the 1980s onwards. Their vineyards benefit from calcareous clay soils and southwest-facing slopes—ideal for retaining freshness and structure. In 2008, they expanded to the Vecciano Estate in the Chianti DOCG zone, where they now grow Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon for their flagship Toscana IGT wines.
Barbanera is a fine example of a heritage producer with a modern outlook—passionate, pragmatic, and proudly Tuscan at heart.
