Blackwater 'Zeitgeist' Cinsault 2019

Cinsault is so underrated as a grape variety. This one is made from forgotten bush vines vines fed by black rivers. Decadently floral. Think of fragrant red flower blossoms with flavours of cranberry and cherry with loads of white pepper on the finish. Elegant, silky and supremely luxurious. Tim Atkin rates it 95 points. I rate it worthy of writing off a Saturday afternoon, hiding in the kitchen from my family and slaving over a lamb tagine to enjoy with the last glass from the bottle...  

Francois Haasbroek is the man who made Stellenbosch legendary producer, Waterford Estate, what it is today. But he always had a dream of doing it alone. So when he’d finished his shift at Waterford, he’d go searching for under appreciated vineyards. Ones whose fruits would be consigned to blends, and he’d stay up until 3 am vinifying them. Then he'd head back to work at Waterford the next day. It’s hard to find a range that gives greater drinking pleasure on release with and without food; they are honest, lively, unpretentiously fine, and delicious.
