Why You'll Love It
Few dessert wines deliver quite this much pleasure from a small glass. Floral Muscat richness develops delicious notes of raisins, toffee and spice after patient cask ageing, without losing its aromatic lift. A superb match for baklava, chocolate or a proper cheese board.
About The Producer
Stanton & Killeen has been making wine in Rutherglen since 1875, when English emigrant Timothy Stanton planted the family's first vines. Seven generations later, the estate remains family-owned, with Wendy and Natasha Killeen continuing its long commitment to Rutherglen's remarkable fortified wines while exploring new possibilities with Portuguese varieties and table wines. Rutherglen's warm continental summers allow Muscat grapes to develop extraordinary richness, while careful fortification preserves their natural sweetness. Patient ageing in large old casks builds the distinctive flavours of raisins, rose petals, caramel and spice. The classic Rutherglen Muscat is the freshest and most immediately enjoyable tier of the region's four-level classification, and an exceptionally good way to discover this uniquely Australian tradition.
Winemaking Information
Muscat à Petits Grains grapes are harvested very ripe, then crushed and briefly macerated before fermentation is stopped by fortification with grape spirit. The fortified wine matures in large old oak casks for around three to four years and is blended across several vintages; the finished Rutherglen tier averages approximately two to four years in age. The ABS specification confirms 18.5% ABV and 290 g/L residual sugar.
