Why You'll Love It
Trebbiano can be wonderfully subtle in the right hands, and Fontodi gives it plenty of personality. Apricot fruit sits alongside chamomile, gentle spice and a savoury hint of dried herbs. It feels concentrated and textured, while refreshing acidity keeps it lively through the long finish. Lovely with roast chicken, grilled fish or pecorino.
About The Producer
Fontodi sits in the Conca d’Oro, an amphitheatre-shaped valley south of Panzano in Chianti Classico. The Manetti family has owned the estate since 1968, and Giovanni Manetti has run it since 1980. This Bianco comes from Trebbiano vines more than 50 years old, grown on the estate’s well-drained, stony galestro soils. It’s a compelling reminder that Tuscany’s native white grapes deserve attention too.
Winemaking Information
The Trebbiano is harvested by hand. Whole bunches are gently pressed, and the juice is settled cold before fermenting at controlled temperatures in tonneaux, which are large oak barrels. The wine then rests on its fine lees in those barrels until May, building texture and complexity while retaining its freshness.
