Château Durfort-Vivens stands among the deep gravel ridges of Margaux, where its history can be traced to the powerful Durfort de Duras family, major landowners in the Médoc from the 14th century. Their former hunting lodge gradually evolved into a distinguished wine estate, passing in 1758 to the Scottish merchant George Ainslie. The Vivens name was added in 1824 through his descendants.

Long recognised among the leading properties of Margaux, Durfort-Vivens was named a Second Growth in the celebrated Bordeaux Classification of 1855. The Lurton family acquired the estate in 1961, and Gonzague Lurton assumed its management in 1992, beginning a patient revival of its vineyards and historic reputation.

Today, the estate comprises 55 hectares scattered across Margaux, Cantenac, Soussans and Arsac. Its vines grow upon ancient, free-draining banks of Garonne gravel, particularly well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. Gonzague and his wife, Claire, have placed the natural life of these vineyards at the heart of their work, achieving organic and biodynamic certification in 2016. Durfort-Vivens now feels both deeply rooted and newly alive, joining the grandeur of old Bordeaux with a thoughtful, progressive care for the land.
