About The Producer
Isole e Olena was formed when the neighbouring Isole and Olena estates were brought together by the De Marchi family in the 1950s. Paolo De Marchi spent years selecting the estate’s best Sangiovese vines, and first released Cepparello in 1980. It remains a selection of the estate’s finest Sangiovese grapes, grown on high, south and southwest-facing slopes in the cooler western part of Chianti Classico.
Winemaking Information
The grapes for the 2020 were picked by hand in the second week of October. After crushing, they fermented on their skins in oak vats for around three weeks. The winemaking team regularly moved the fermenting juice over the skins to draw out colour and flavour while keeping the tannins soft. After malolactic fermentation, the wine spent 18 months in oak barrels: one third new, one third one year old and one third two years old. It then matured for a further year in bottle before release.
