About The Producer
Marquista is Richard Kelley MW's independent Sherry-bottling project, named after the traditional Spanish term for a merchant who sources and bottles wine without owning a bodega. The Blanco de Albariza comes from Bodegas del Río in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, where the del Río family has grown grapes for four generations. Their 13 hectares at Viña Casilla Verde in Miraflores Baja are planted on chalk-rich albariza soils. The bodega has long supplied established Sherry houses and now also releases distinctive small-production wines under its own name.
Winemaking Information
100% Palomino Fino from Bodegas del Río in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, selected for the Marquista project. An unfortified dry white from the 2024 harvest grown on albariza soils. Aged biologically under flor in fifteen old Oloroso barrels, then bottled in spring 2026. This is not a fortified Sherry, although the flor ageing brings comparable saline and yeasty character. The 2024-specific ABV has not been reliably established.
