Why You'll Love It
Elegant, and supple. Forgive the bright, cherry red colour, for the nose is deep and complex. Aromas of layered red fruit, wild berries and oregano with juicy red fruit on the palate, only temporarily masking the deep minerality. Loads of texture and verve, this is an energetic wine with volcanic flair. A real beauty with lamb or rustic pasta dishes.
About The Producer
Masseria Setteporte is a family-owned estate on the south-western slopes of Mount Etna, where the Portale family has farmed vines for generations. Their organically certified vineyards lie between 650 and 800 metres above sea level on ancient lava terraces around Biancavilla, an area known for producing wines with both richness and remarkable freshness. The combination of volcanic soils, Mediterranean sunshine and cooling mountain breezes creates ideal conditions for Sicily's native grape varieties. With minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar, the family focuses on expressing the unique character of Etna's extraordinary terroir rather than overpowering it with winemaking.
Winemaking Information
Produced predominantly from Nerello Mascalese with a small proportion of Nerello Cappuccio, grown in certified organic vineyards on volcanic soils. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel to preserve purity of fruit before the wine spends around 12 months in French oak, only a small proportion of which is new. The result is a wine that combines vibrant red fruit, floral aromatics and volcanic minerality with subtle spice and refined structure.
