South Africa’s Cape Winelands are hardly short of brilliant producers, but Plaisir and Bartinney are two estates giving us plenty to get excited about.
Plaisir sits at the foot of the Simonsberg, with a winemaking history stretching all the way back to 1693, while Bartinney is perched high on the slopes of Botmaskop, overlooking Stellenbosch’s beautiful Banghoek Valley. Now both under the custodianship of the Jordaan family, the estates make the most of altitude, mountain influences and some seriously impressive vineyard sites to produce wines with freshness, elegance and plenty of South African character.
For this Meet the Makers evening, we’re really pleased to welcome the team behind Plaisir and Bartinney to Vino Gusto. They’ll take us through a line-up from both estates, sharing the stories behind the vineyards, their approach to winemaking and what makes these two corners of the Cape Winelands so special. Expect brilliant South African wines, plenty of personality, a few surprises along the way, and the chance to hear directly from the people behind the bottles.
No stuffiness. No wine snobbery. Still very much Vino Gusto.
As always, cheese and charcuterie included.

- We adore our wonky old building. All we regret is that the staircase to our first floor WC and tasting room is not forgiving and as such rules us out from being accessible. Sorry for the inconvenience it may cause.
- Please note that we kindly ask attendees not to wear strong aftershave or perfume for the event. This sounds like a silly request, but we try and keep our tasting room as a controlled environment so that only the wine fumes invade our nostrils.
